Background Removal

Background removal with an edge you can print

Automatic tools smear hair, eat thin detail and leave a fringe of the old background behind. We cut by hand where it matters.

What we fix

If any of this sounds familiar, we can help

  • Fringing left behind

A halo of the old background colour around the whole subject.

  • Hair and fur destroyed

Fine strands turned into a solid, obviously-cut blob.

  • Thin detail eaten

Gaps, fine lines and small shapes filled in by an automatic selection.

  • Not actually transparent

The background was replaced with white rather than removed.

Where automatic background removal fails

One-click tools work well on a clear subject against a plain, contrasting background. That describes a product photo and very little else.

They fail predictably everywhere else: where the subject and background share a colour, on anything semi-transparent, on soft or motion-blurred edges, and on hair — which needs the background removed from between the strands rather than around the outline of them.

They also tend to produce edge pixels still partly blended with the old background. On screen you won't notice. Printed on a coloured garment, it's a visible outline. The fix is to re-cut the edge rather than run another pass of removal over it.

What you get back
  • Genuine transparent PNG
  • Hand-cut edges around hair and fine detail
  • Optional natural drop shadow retained
  • Optional flattened version on your product colour
